READ MOREMy one (and only) bucket list item was a horseback riding safari in Africa. My husband and I decided for our 60th birthdays, we would "gift" each other a trip. I was worried about not being fit enough at 60 to do an all day, every day ride at a fast pace and my hubby is a novice, so Isabel booked us a lodge-based adventure with plenty of riding opportunities at each turn. It couldn't have worked out any better for the both of us. We stayed at Borana, and Lewa Wilderness rhino conservancies and jumped down to Angama in the Mara triangle for a change. All the intercountry flights went smoothly, the Covid era testing went off without a hitch and even the Nairobi dining recommendations were superb. Can't recommend them enough!

My 17 year old daughter and I just had the best 5 days riding at Ants Nest in South Africa. The set up there is fantastic as the horses live roaming amongst the wild animals. This means that you ride right up to giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, rhinos, warthog and all the different antelope and get so close in an entirely natural and calm way, far removed from a jeep safari. Breathtaking scenery, wonderful staff all of whom went out of their way to make our stay truly special. Highlights included every sundowner, going swimming bareback on the horses and long canters, never knowing what you might spot round the corner. Thank you to African Horse Safaris for finding us the perfect experience, a life long dream fully realised beyond our expectations.

We just returned from 6 nights at Borana, filled with excitement and stories and a true love and appreciation for Kenya. What an absolutely Magical experience! We are a family of four with teen girls 14 & 16. African Safari recommended Borana to us and they were absolutely spot on. The riding, scenery , staff all exceeded our expectations. As I told the staff at Borana they are the keepers of the Garden of Eden. I believe they hold the happiest animals on the planet! They should be so proud of what they do and are doing. We LOVED our entire vacation ALL of us individually and collectively. All Thanks to the wonderful recommendations of Riding Safari. Thank You for the memories and allowing us to score high in the eyes of our teens for choosing the right vacation

What can I say ? This has probably been my most perfect vacation ever. Everything was perfect, down to the most tiny detail. Every transfer we had were on time, nice and sharp (we did have a flat tire on our way to Nedile but it was quick and funny to fix). Nedile & Ants hill were aware we were vegetarian thanks to you and went above and beyond to deliver great food for us. I don't think I have eaten that much in my whole life! All of our riding or game drive went perfect, and indeed in 2 days Jérôme was cantering in the bushes like a pro thanks to the 2 great horses he rode Loulou and Louancia. I also loved the 2 horses I had during my stay, Serai and Serengeti. Great cantering companion with great personalities. We saw so many wild animals we had to make a list of name to remember. We also got to hand feed one of the Rhino at Ant, which was absolutely incredible. The teams were all great, with a strong family feeling: we felt like at home (but way better) and we were so sad to leave. The special attentions I got at Ant for my birthday were just adorable. Jérôme and I both felt really weird being back home, the best experience of our lives was done and we felt very sad. I truly believe we will be back at Ants as soon as we can!

The riding experience on this trip was unmatched. Allison was an expert at navigating us through the dense bush and dynamic landscape. She used her expertise in anti-poaching to safely get us extremely close (8-10meters at times) to wild animals. The riding was fast paced and ever changing. Always something to see or somewhere to go. She had great knowledge of the landscape and would change our rides up if we weren’t seeing animals. Allison was very open that she wanted to make the most of every second of my trip - I really appreciated this. She would also consistently get off her horse to show me tracks, marking, bones, bugs, snares or something interesting. It was very educational and I learned a lot. The horses were fantastic, in great shape and brave as can be.

We had such an amazing week riding at Borana lodge in Kenya in August! The lodge is stunning, we loved the attention to detail and eco-friendliness. The food was amazing, our room was beautiful and the staff made us feel so spoiled. We rode twice a day with super horses and guides, getting quite close to wildlife and having some fun gallops along the way. The horses are well-trained and lots of fun to ride. The conservancy is huge and every ride was different. We absolutely loved our night fly-camping with the horses - such a special experience! We also took the chance to do a game drive one afternoon and got close to cheetahs and lions. Overall it was the perfect combination of riding, safari and rest at the beautiful lodge. One week definitely felt too short!
